Carson City, Michigan, was first platted on land owned by R.M. Abbott, Delia Miner, and Hiram T. Sherman, with the plat recorded in 1871. It was named by Thomas Scott, who had visited Carson City, Nevada, during its mining boom.

Now Carson City is a small city located in southeastern Montcalm County, Michigan, with a 2026 population of approximately 1,144. It is known as a quiet, rural community with a strong agricultural base, a, local hospital, and a correctional facility. The city is situated along M-57, offering a relaxed suburban feel with easy access to Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Mt. Pleasant.
